10 Canning Projects that Make Great Gifts

Canners love sharing their labor of love with others. Canned gifts make a great homemade gift for the person who has everything or the food connoisseur since you can easily whip up some dream items that cannot be found in grocery stores. These ten canned gifts bring out the most compliments, and wishes for more next year.

1. Champagne Blush Jelly: I do not really care for peanut butter and jelly, but this recipe actually makes me want peanut butter and jelly. The champagne blush jelly smells fantastic, and the color is beautiful. The jelly has a very intense raspberry taste that is complimented by the champagne in the jelly. This is my top canning gift. Everyone who has tried this jelly always wants more.

2. Sweet and Spicy Pickles: People who love pickles and people who love spicy things always love this canned gift. The chunks of red pepper and garlic give this pickle a nice attractive look that is perfect for a Christmas gift.
3. Roasted Roma Tomatoes: Everyone needs a few jars of tomato sauce in their pantry for a quick week night meal, and this jar of tomato sauce tastes extra special. Roasting the tomatoes and garlic in the sauce brings out the best flavors of this summer time special.
4. Pears Mulled in Red Wine: Wine lovers will adore this canned gift. The pears absorb the wonderful taste of the wine while the spices add a nice touch. You will want to eat this gift straight out of the jar.
5. Maraschino Cherries: Store bought maraschino cherries are full of high fructose corn syrup while these special cherries are made with cherry brandy to give them a sweet unique flavor that is perfect on top of ice cream or stuffed inside of a cake. This canned gift will make the recipient never want to eat store bought maraschino cherries again.
6. Sweet Gherkins: The spice blend in sweet gherkins makes it the perfect sweet pickle gift. The delicate balance of spices combined with the just the right amount of sugar makes this the best sweet pickle that I have ever made and everyone who has tried them agrees that they are amazing.
7. Jalapeño Salsa: Do you have a friend who loves spicy Mexican food? Then this is the perfect canning gift for them. This salsa can be put on top of tacos or served as an appetizer with chips. The beautiful colored chunks of vegetables make this spicy gift an attractive gift when a ribbon is tied around the neck.
8. Picalilli: The pretty yellow color of the piccalilli makes this canning gift stand out. Picallili is great for the cook because you have a lot of flexibility on what vegetables to add. Every year you can make this canned gift slightly different for a unique yearly gift.
9. Blueberry syrup: Pair this blueberry syrup with some pancake mix and green tea or coffee, and you have the perfect gift for a breakfast basket. The blueberry flavor in this syrup is perfect, and the color is wonderful.
10. Almond Pears: The flavor of these pears will win over any pear skeptic. The almonds paired with the pears is genius and attractive inside the jar. Anyone would be lucky to receive this beautiful jar as a gift.

  3. Oh my, what great options for canned pears. My usual are just with cinnamon, ginger, and lemon peel but I'll have to branch out.

My usual canned gift is a simple purple cauliflower pickle. They have amazing color, and people tend to be a fan.
